THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Southeast Zone, has raised 12 questions for the immediate past and incumbent governors of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi and Chief Willie Obiano, on the management and application of funds.
CLO said: “It has become very imperative for former Governor Peter Obi, who is campaigning for his former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, as candidate of his new party the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Governor Obiano, who is seeking re-election on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, to answer the questions so that the people of the state will have confidence.
Rising from a quarterly meeting of its Zonal Management Committee, held in Awka, which was attended by the chairmen and secretaries of the five Southeast states, with the Zonal Chairman, Comrade Aloysius Attah, the CLO said they were demanding urgent answers from the duo on 12 issues concerning their administrations.
The 12 questions include their use of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) funds; the Universal Basic Education (UBEC) Account; the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) Account; the 75 Billion Naira handed over by Obi to Obiano.
Others are security votes issue; the million dollars vegetable export controversy; the Foreign Direct Investments; the FGN Contract Refunds; the issue of godfatherism; the N10Billion Campaign Fund; the Fund Released by the FG for Oko-Nanka Erosion Control; and the Umueri Airport Project: CLO said it needed clarifications to the said questions because of suspected mismanagement and misapplication of funds which had caused unnecessary controversy.
“The answers to these questions are, therefore, necessary in order to set the records straight ahead of the November 18 gubernatorial poll in Anambra State so that the people of the state will know why they need their votes.” …sues for issues-based campaigns The CLO also sued for a peaceful governorship election in Anambra State, as well as issues-based campaigns.
CLO said the nation’s democracy has gone beyond campaign of calumny and hate speeches among the candidates of various political parties.
